The Brothers Kötting have spent over thirteen years visiting and contemplating the Pyrenean landscape. They have lived deep in the Ariège, Terre Courage, maintenant avec un Grand A.
This body of work has been inspired by their time there. Derived in part from the novel La Terre by Emile Zola and the book Pig Earth by John Berger. Distant memories of "And the Ass saw the Angel" and Russel Hoban’s "Riddley Walker".
A feature length film made by one of the brothers acts as a catalyst for their outburst. The exhibition is an assembled collection of sweepings, shavings and splinters, all happy to see the light of day.
It is an approximation of a story telling, the work of adhocists.
Expressive experimentation with the (moving) image form. Mundane minimalism with the (still) image form. An immersion in things pertaining to the great out of doors. The rural and the berserk. Sound and picture as conveyors or contingent signifiers. Interlopers within the constructs that are deemed ArT. A search for the sublime or the elegiac. The good looking and the abject.
