Kingdom ProStista
In dimensions that fall between those of bacteria and the smallest of animals and plants, there exists a realm of life so diverse that I cannot find a satisfying description, so this is a plan :
A few drops of pond water seen under the microscope can quickly confirm the existence of microscopic eukaaryotes (warts) and parasites, that make up much of Kingdom Protista. (Any member from the kingdom of organisms).
Exceedingly close up, really close up.
A computer generated mutoid parasite/simulacra (human forms found in nature).
Possibly, a defective and mutated copepod, hanging on
for dear life, stuck to the eye of a shark and trailing an egg sack. You
wouldn’t be able to tell at first, we never concern ourselves with the
whole shark, just the eye.
Aqueous, sonic meanderings comprise a soundtrack designed to connect with the image. Disparate and yet making sense: “what shall we do with the drunken sailor”? Moby Dick Melville quote cut up or a line from a deep sea fishing manual, Jacques Cousteau, The Old man and the sea. The parasite also has a voice of its own, all gutteral and frightening, or is it the shark that is in agony?
A shuttling Super 8 liquid vista provides the backdrop in which this thing can live. (Ponds, puddles streams and oceans.)
“Put him in the longboat ‘till he’s sober.” The creature is devoured by another as a new one is born from the sack. It moves out into a new liquid super 8 panorama and turns to look at the camera: arms with their hooks, everso frightening.
The work is also designed to be presented as a 4 screen projector installation. The film runs on a loop but slightly offset – ie 3-4 seconds out of sync for each of the four projections
