THE INSTALLATION

Set in pots on a trestle table, a forest of bonsai trees is presented in a darkened space. Shadows are created by the projection of a series of slides of tree silhouettes. Scattered around the edges are ‘Still Life’ drawings made in collaboration with Eden of some of the bonsai trees and record covers with trees as a theme.
Underneath the trestle table two monitors play two separate eight-minute loops of a mother and her daughter pleading up into the forest and out into the night that a son and brother (Alex) return to earth. (These are two key scenes re-edited from a feature film of the same name.)
Alex’s anorak hangs on the wall as trace element and key to the installations’ signifiers.
