THE F-ISH INSTALLATION
2009 (French with English subtitles)
Hastings
Set in pots on a trestle table, a forest of bonsai trees is presented in a darkened space. Shadows are created by the projection of a series of slides of tree silhouettes. Underneath the table two monitors play two separate eight minute loops of a mother and her daughter pleading up into the forest and out into the night that a son and brother (Alex) return to earth. (These are two key scenes re-edited from a feature film of the same name.)
In an adjoining room, drawings of Bonsai trees made in collaboration with my daughter Eden are presented on and around the walls. In a vitrine artifacts pertaining to the film are also exhibited in particular the clothes that Alex wore throughout the making of the film. They serve as trace elements and ghostly presence.
Projected onto one of the walls visible from the street is a Pyrenean Landscape sunset time-lapse. The forests depicted are those in and around the Montagne de la Frau and in which Alex performed for the making of the feature film IVUL.
Hand made tiles are also exhibited.
